Co-ed Summer League

The Boilerplate

The Gorge Ultimate Club is a private, unincorporated association of volunteers dedicated to promoting Co-Ed Ultimate Frisbee in the Gorge. We are not affiliated with the Ultimate Players Association and do not provide liability or accident insurance for players. Any person 18 years of age or older is eligible to play in Summer league, provided you register, pay the league fees, execute the waiver and release of liability and agree to abide by the league rules. The Gorge Ultimate Club does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin. Summer league starts on June 23rd and regular season play ends August 25th followed by a one day tournament and party on August 28nd. We provide the fields, schedules and organize the teams. Players will be assigned to teams by the league.

Three Key Points About Style

One of the most basic premises of Co-Ed Summer League is adherence to what is referred to in Ultimate Frisbee as "Spirit of the Game," a tradition of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the players rather than referees. Check out Ten Things You Should Know About Spirit of the Game. If you have never played Ultimate before or if you’ve been playing for decades, we play by this rule during Summer League.

Secondly, Gorge Ultimate Co-Ed Summer League is committed to equal participation for all players, young or old, male or female, skilled or developing. To reach that goal teams are asked to balance their rosters in ability, fitness, and gender. As well, players are asked to share playing time equitably and "share the disc" with all teammates while playing.

In conjunction with "sharing the disc", Gorge Ultimate Co-Ed Summer League is trying to foster what can be referred to as a "flow" style of play in which the disc is passed from one player to the next all the way down the field. Teams and players are asked to support this by avoiding an offense based on the more selfish and basic style of play, "huck and run" and instead attempt to master "flow offense" with the whole team.
